The City of West Palm Beach's First Historic District Designated 1991 and Listed on the National Register of Historic Places 1994. There are twenty blocks to this coastal neighborhood.

The Old Northwood area was developed in the early 1920's, during the Florida land boom, to be one of the most exclusive communities this side of Palm Beach. It is locally significant as a distinguishable area with a high concentration of Mediterranean Revival, Mission and Frame Vernacular single family residences.

The early work of Palm Beach architect John Volk is showcased in the District. Examples of the work of two other fine local architects, William Manley King and Henry Stephen Harvey, are also located in the district. 

There is only One non-residential property in the District: the West Palm Beach Fire Station Number 3, built in 1936 and located at the corner of 35th and Poinsettia. 

In March of each year the neighborhood sponsors the "Mayor's Tour and progressive Dinner". This event has been hosted by the mayor of West Palm Beach since 1991. 

After the Christmas holiday each year we host the "Candlelight Home Tour "where we showcase about 15 homes decked out in holiday decorations. This is our largest fundraiser for the neighborhood and has become a tradition in West Palm Beach.
